What a great movie. To bad it is closer to the truth then the average citizen thinks. Makes you wonder of how much we see on tv or read in the paper is real and how much is scripted. How would we ever know?

I watched this old movie again because it is so relevant to contemporary politics (2017-18). I loved it as much now as I did when it first came out, though it has a much deeper meaning in today's world.
I reached back to see this again because of current times, not that its not always relevant. I’ve matured more since the film came out so now the “smoke screen,” aka the “Wall” we are dealing with today is less of a distraction for me personally. I can see the systematic breakdown of government behind the scenes.

Explains perfectly what's going on with the media and political manipulation of this country. Intended as satire, it's a little too close to the truth for comfort! Amusing and effective in its storytelling. Masterful execution of a plot that should make you shudder. Will get you to thinking for sure!

Yeah, it's adult(it's rated "r" after all. It's funnier than heck. It has many fine performances by many fine actors who really seem to be enjoying the job. It makes perfect sense- the King of spin played by Robert DeNiro a key trouble shooter that they call when the stuff hits the fan. " Why does the dog wag it's tail? It has a brain. If the tail had a brain it would wag the dog". Think about it!

I was looking for this Movie for years. Whether on VHS or DVD, I kept looking and came across this listing, and this supplier, of a previously owned DVD. The price was perfect. I was expecting a slightly handled dvd with/without it's original packaging, with evidence of resting on shelves for a number of years. Arrival of item, exceeded all expectations. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the envelope to find a brand new, never viewed, still in the original packaging/security sealed and wrapped dvd. Clean, no damage to packaging anywhere. I haven't opened it yet, but I expect to have a great day of popcorn, and a few good movies. One of which will be Wag the Dog.
I enjoyed this movie, and it could likely become one of my favorites. But I wouldn't really call it "comedy". I tend to laugh more during movies that are a little less realistic and more ridiculous. (The part Woody Harrelson was in was pretty hysterical though.)
I see this more as a light-hearted approach to the very real problem of political whitewashing. A more serious treatment would have made it scary and depressing. The satirical treatment they gave the subject makes it entertaining, while also giving us a warning about how easy it is for politicians (and anybody with enough money behind them (to deceive and distract the public.
4.0 out of 5 starsA smart and provocative film made by Hollywood against contemporary Hollywood-style wars

No wonder this film has such a limite ddistribution in HV: just a dvd around the world, no blu ray, very few runs on tv: because it is a captivating film made in the hollywood way, by hollywood people (DeNiro, Hoffman, Barry Levinson and writer David Mamet) while conveying a cynical and provocative view of contemporary global politics and media-based wars. It basically anticipate the dynamics and intelligence behind our more recent wars (from Afghanistan on). And it is so linear, clear and smart in telling how media and political manipulation works, that I guess it might have been a reason of embarassment for Hollywood Studios so that's why it was never re-release so far. So basically get this film and hold it tight, because I guess we might wait years before they show it again. Just watch it and think if it does not resemble what keeps on happening with us about fake revolutions and western wars: here it shows how it is all a Hollywood-style operation, where you play with clichè and script a story to appeal audience and make it support whatever you want. It just takes a far away allegedly oppressed people, some heroes, a captivating supporting campaign talking about freedom, maybe a song to represent it, and some good old rethorics. And the war is won....

Ok, I've might have read to much on Globalresearch.ca etc but this seems like too close to the truth. I often was a bit to chocked to find it easy to laugh! A brilliant film, and a sure classic on par with Network or They Live.
4.0 out of 5 starsAmerican political satire on a new level

SAFE READING - NO SPOILERS
Rare in the American film list, this is a satire. Even rarer, it is an amusing, successful satire. With Robert DeNiro and Dustin Hoffman as its lead actors, each playing their hearts out, although Hoffman steals the show with his over-the-top, effeminate, creative producer, it could hardly fail. It will not be to everyone's taste but in its extremes, I could not help thinking about the "dodgy dossier", WMDs, presentations to the UN and other political legends.

DVD in excellent condition, eventhough it was not new. I chose to buy a second hand one because the price of a new one was ridiculous, made the right decision! The film is brilliant: thought provoking and hilarious, and makes you think: how far from the truth is this??? Worrying. Very happy with it.
