I thoroughly enjoyed Season 9, Episode 1 and can't wait for the rest of the season's shows. Soooo much better then season 8. I love the new lead in credits which are comprised somewhat of comic figures. The color of the scenery is bright and true colored unlike Fear OTWD which is in gray monotones. Season 9 takes place 1.5 years after season 8 so there is a lot of development that has taken place since the war with the saviors. There are some new characters which adds the possibility of new story lines. There is a significant demise which had me cheering. Swing high swing low! (giggle) I particularly like that all the characters are seen or discussed. It's not one of those one person shows. It's a Cowboy/Zombie apocalyptic soap opera, which I love. Good job Walking Dead!
Just watched the 5th episode, and I am really liking season 9. Feels like their is more depth than the last couple seasons, and we are really seeing things from characters like in the beginning of the show. I stopped watching regularly a couple seasons ago because I started to feel like they drug out the Negan 'reign' - now I wont miss an episode this season. Cant wait for episode 6
So glad the season had started and people can stop complaining about only being able to see the trailer.
For future reference, anytime you buy a show before it has aired, you won't be able to watch it right away. The primary reason I purchase full seasons on Amazon is to be able to watch at my convenience, commercial free.
That said, episode 1 was really good. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it, but it definitely is setting a very serious, tense, dark tone.
This season is looking like it will be pretty good. I hate that Rick is leaving but hes not the only good character. I think the show will live. Also, I purchased the whole season but does anyone know how long it is after the episode airs that its available on Prime Video?

A great season not as exciting as the others but not a bad season building up I assume for the next season
I don’t like spoilers so I can’t really write much But I shall try to write things
One get the tissues out as a major character dies in a shocking twist and it a twist I really enjoyed I knew it was coming from reading the comics and minor minor spoiler on an email I was sent several months before we could get it as we only have terrestrial and Netflix tv so we have to wait for the DVDs and no I don’t pirate shows I have never done anything like that (true fact/ read below for real reason)
It jumps from the future to the past several times so please keep up with where is where
If your watching this on the PS4 as we did you need to change the sound settings On the disc options if you just have a basic set up as for several episodes we didn’t know this (not being very tech savey) so we wondered why they had the volume down to a ridiculous setting we actually were on the brink of sending the DVDs back saying there is something wrong with them. As I knew one of the other seasons were too dark and needed replaced I just cannot remember which one it was.
The box set is like all the others nothing special about it same looking disks as the rest same looking box actually it often a worry that I’ve not chosen the same box set as I already have .. they really need to work in this it only minor details that Change and speaking of that the theme Intro has also changed which I quite like and actually fully understand why ... unlike my partner who complained through it ... it the minor things apparently
I don’t know if I can say anything else that won’t give the game away
5.0 out of 5 starsAbsoluetly awesome series best in a long while.

Ive watched this show right from the start and ive always loved every second and every season , with the odd dry episode here or there which were just okay but this season really stepped up , gave us the arrival of the whisperers top acting and creepy suspence of just not being sure whats a walker and whats not ,just how i imagined the comic version being live action major spoilers now is the loss of the main star rick grimes aka Andrew lincoln and Jesus Tom payne , once you get past it honest it really does hold up well still this show , i cant really say i noticed rick being gone due to all the action and the drama really pulled it off well i miss him loads but the show had to move on without him he wants to do bigger things , as for jesus that was a sour patch because he trained so hard to be awesome and fight like he did when he died but rarely did that under gimples directoring and so he decided to leave and this is where angela kang stepped it all up 100% after all that with some of the best moments so far.

Only half way through the season and I’m taking a break, will return to it in a couple of months. It’s so nauseatingly boring! I want to see the main characters together and fighting fit like they used to. But it’s cheaper to keep bringing in new characters, who are annoying, and guess they then pay the stars less?! Every time a new group comes along you wonder how they’ve survived in such a world for so long. Time goes so slow when watching an episode and I used to love the show. I also can’t help but wonder if there is some hidden political message they’re trying to get out there, all the talk of togetherness, a better world and keeping evil Negan alive. Nice idea but they’re now living in a world full of Zombies, kick some butt and get the old gang back together properly.

With the 9th season of The Walking Dead comes a real sense of loss. Long-term fans of the show will be familiar with AMC's policy of killing off established characters, and many of us already thought that cutting Carl Grimes' life short last season was a step too far, but here we are again, and the mortality rate is as high as ever. Enid is gone. Tara is gone. Henry is gone. Jesus is gone. Actor Andrew Lincoln has also departed, due to family commitments, but the writers have left it open for Rick's return. So, too, Lauren Cohen (Maggie Rhee). Both these actors' absence from most of these episodes leaves a hole that the other characters cannot fill. It is rumoured that Ms Cohen is in negotiations with AMC to return in Season 11. It may just be a subjective impression on my part, but the whole story arc has a melancholic, if not downright depressing, feel to it. Characters have aged, the sense of loss is palpable, Negan is dispirited and figuratively toothless, and our survivors have a dangerous new enemy to face. On the plus side the writers have returned to the creepy aesthetics that made the early seasons so watchable - postapocalyptic mankind battling against terrifying odds, in a world that belongs to the dead. The Whisperers, led by the predatory Alpha, are genuinely sinister. (All Ed Gein and Dead Skin Masks!) Kudos, too, to English actress Samantha Morton, who brings to the role of Alpha a quiet intensity that serves to magnify the threat - and, wow, she has a more than passing resemblance to Brando's Colonel Kurtz, another morally bankrupt and degenerate persona of dark fiction. As a fan of the show since episode one I have stuck with it. Those with a similar loyalty would do well to buy this DVD, because this being TWD even at its worst it still surpasses every other show out there. Let's just hope the network can persuade both Lincoln and Cohen to return and, in the meantime, do a better job at writing new characters, as most of the fresh faces this season are rather unprepossessing.

Season 9 is a bit of an improvment, but still for my money, too many characters and plot lines, and some of the new characters have yet to make their mark. Also newbie "Henry" must be THE most annoying character yet. Selfish, incredibly stupid ( if there is a wrong decision to take, he will take it. Darryl and Carol and Michone
are still plugging away. So sadly is Negan!. The introduction of the "Whisperers" led by Alpha as played by Samantha Morton brings a touch of the macabre, and much needed menace. (Why her I ask? So far she spends most of her screen time in a "walker" mask. When not, she is quite terrifying!) Truth be told I was surprised to learn Series 10 is ready for TV. As I have the previous 9, I will get it, but, please, producers, then draw it to a close. To finish - Still worth watching, and I am enjoying this more than seasons 7 and 8. (P.S. How many viewers actually followed the plot for episode 14 on disc 5?? Tell the truth now.)
4.0 out of 5 starsA return to form, but highlights how dragged out the past few seasons have been

Season 9 is a return back to form, but it does ironically highlight what a dragged out mess it's been over the past 2-3 seasons. The first few episodes up to the "What Comes After" ending feel like they should have been the true finale of season 8 instead of us getting all the filler. Starting season 9 with the clean break that came from episode six would have made more sense to me. From there, the series does start to get interesting and shows a bit more promise. This is not a 5-star season as it still seems a bit disjointed with too many random, expendable or under developed characters in the mix. But hopefully it's going in the right direction again for season 10.

Good to see this series making a welcoming return to form after the disappointment of the last two seasons. The writing has much improved and the story lines give all the cast the chance to shine. The new 'baddies' are truly nasty and whilst it is a slow build up to their appearance they are worth the wait. I don't want to give anything away for those who may not be up to date, but this series is well worth watching. Particular highlights are the "Chokehold" and "Scars" episodes. Can't wait for Season 10.
5.0 out of 5 starsThe reinvigoration of the franchise

I've been a fan of The Walking Dead since Season 1. It is by far my favourite TV series of all time. As the years went by, the show had its highs and lows. The first 5 seasons were phenomenal, Season 6 had its moments of greatness, but got a bit carried away with fake-out deaths and of course the infamous cliffhanger finale. First episode of Season 7 was amazing, but it started to really slow down after that, and began to feel stale. Season 8 was a bit better, but it still felt like something was off. Season 9, however, was exactly what the show needed to breathe new life back into it.
Going into the season, I was very worried after hearing about the impending departure of Andrew Lincoln, who has portrayed my all-time favourite TV show character Rick Grimes since 2010. I was worried, no only about how he would be written out, but also about whether the show could even survive without him. Well, the show proved me wrong on both counts, not only did they find the perfect way for Rick to exit, but the rest of the season kept my interest, thanks to the remaining ensemble of characters that I've grown to love over the years. Notable stand outs are Norman Reedus as fan-favourite Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier (who has had the best character development in the whole series) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan (who continues to steal the show).
The introduction of new characters is also a strong point of the season, whether it be the more friendly new faces (Magna's group) or the not-so-friendly new faces (The Whisperers). I found all of them to be welcome additions to the cast. I encourage anyone who may have lost interest in the series somewhere down the line to give it another go, as I'm more excited than ever about the future of the franchise, especially with the upcoming movie trilogy.
5.0 out of 5 starsComing to the end. Shame on you writers producers.

I love the walking dead but I think that the writers and producers have shot themselves in the foot,by killing off so many of the main cast members whose going to run hilltop when Maggie leaves. Sometimes when you kill off one character another goes aswell .who's going to run Alexandria when merchon leaves/dies.It seems to me that the show may not go on past the 10th season. It take time for us fans to get to know and like the characters and I don't think the show has that long left pity??? I love the series, so when I saw season 9’s DVD boxset had been released I had to order it...and so far I’m not disappointed. The DVD arrived perfectly on time; it was not a Polish edition (as the description instead said), everything was in english.

I've watched all the seasons of TWD except for season 10 which I am really looking forward to it when its released on DVD and I can honestly say I've enjoyed everyone single episode, I am totally addicted to the show and will be very sad when it finally comes to an end, but if you're like me, a horror and gore fanatic, you'll really love these.

I love the series, I only score 4 out of 5 stars cause I was unable to buy 4K Blue ray as it was not available, and also because at some moments the image quality is poor (too much compression, loss of quality).
I'm playing the disc 4 out of 6 and so far this season is very interesting and cool.
