i do love this movie. it's a definitely major change from her 'clueless' role lol (another movie i love) but she does it so well, and benicio is awesome as vincent. a few bonus characters like christopher walken and harry connick jr make the movie that much better :) emily (alicia silverstone) decides to try and get her father's attention by arranging her own kidnapping but then she really is 'kidnapped' when vincent steals her car w/ her already in the trunk (by her own doing). of course, at first they hate each other, but start to get used to each other after awhile and you can guess what happens from there lol. so it's kinda predictable but still enjoyable to watch IMO.
I watched it again because I really enjoy this movie. It IS good. Well written and acted. Worth repeat views. There are two quotes I love - Vincent: "How stupid do you think I am?" Emily: "I don't know. How stupid is there."
Vincent: "The best way to make a dream come true is to wake up."
I'm a Benecio del Toro fan; this role is one that allows the most dialogue from him in the his earlier films. It's got a good cast, is not as dark as BdT's usual movies, is amusing and a good feel good movie. Not one of his best roles but the film is enjoyable. One of those movies I watch to lighten things up when I really don't want to think about anything. I recommend this for del Toro fans and anyone looking for an amusing, no deep thought required film.
This is a pretty neat latter day screwball romance comedy. The honcho who thought of casting Benicio Del Toro and Alicia Silverstone as potential lovers is either a genius or ready for the asylum. Regardless there is palpable chemistry between the two that produces kinetic sparks. A bonus is Christopher Walken as Silverstone's ambiguous Uncle Ray. You didn't really think a mere band of bikers could intimidate the Walkenator, did you? If there's a gripe to made is that the story is kind of thin, trite, and predictable. That said I'm not going to complain about a movie that has the gumption, for the most part to go the beat of its own quirky rhythms. It recalled to me films like "Something Wild" and "True Romance" that defied romance film convention.
I do not understand what people expect from a movie, This movie is so funny, It has action and a great cast. I admit some movies should not make it off of the cutting room floor but this is not one of them, I wish people would take movies for what they are worth, stop expecting so much and stop being sooooo critical...The whole idea of the movie is that silverstone is a brat, I read in another reviewers comments that silerstone was bratty, "duh", I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes comedy, really nice cars, a great cast and believable acting.....BEARS 365..........
I would lock myself in the trunk of my car in a heartbeat if Benicio del Toro would come by and steal me and it. I like all the characters in this, and I like all of the actors. Christopher Walken is so good as Uncle Ray, and Harry Connick Jr. plays such a dweeb, but still manages to be cute. Alicia Silverstone is perfect as the pouty rich girl trying to get her dad's attention. This movie is like a fun ride at the amusement park, good for a few go-arounds.
Is this a great movie? Definitely not. Is it even a mildly good one? Probably not. Do I love it anyway? YES.
I bought this for nostalgia purposes. My cousin had a copy of this growing up, and we'd always watch it when I went to stay with her. It's gotten a lot cheesier over the years, but the sentimental value remains.
When I bought this DVD I knew nothing about the film except that the cast seemed promising with Benicio del Toro and Christopher Walken starring alongside Alicia Silverstone. The story about an attention seeking teenager staging her own kidnapping, only to find herself trapped in the boot of her car when it is stolen and driven away, was also rather intriguing.
And the film proved to be very enjoyable indeed with it's many twists and turns. There are a few real laugh out loud moments as Del Toro, the young car thief and unwitting kidnapper, has his hands full with the very plucky Silverstone. And when Walken appears on the scene, the plot thickens and it becomes impossible to know who is playing whom, and why.
It's not the greatest film ever made, especially the filming locations aren't as exciting as they could be (apparently most of the film was shot in British Columbia), and it's and definitely not your average romcom, but it's great fun all the same. If you are intrigued by the story, or if you like the actors involved, chances are you'll find something to like about it.
Love this film! Alicia Silverstone is fab as Emily, who stages her own kidnapping but then her car gets stolen for real with her in the boot! Benicio del toro is excellent as Vincent the car theif. Before long the two of them team up. Brilliant film. Great soundtrack too!
When I first came across this DVD I wasn`t sure about it at all. From the cover I expected another one of those mindless romances but was pleased to say I found this film entertaining and well acted with a fresh approach to the story of a kidnapping.

A small film, not well known but really enjoyable. It's different and quirky as are the characters. Alicia Silverstone plays a young girl faking a kidnapping to get attention from her uninterested father but Benicio Del Toro unwittingly chooses her car - with her locked in the boot - to steal. This then leads to a series of misadventures. Christopher Walken is at his usual finest!

I suppose you have like alicia silverstone, but I do, and also Benicio Del Toro, but again I do - they make a great double-act and this is an enjoyable film, with a twisty plot, dumb and dumber hench-men and hit-men and a happy ending for all. If you like semi-romatic comedy thrillers this is a must.

It seems an odd pairing, but I think the two stars jelled quite nicely. Christopher Walken, as always, the most interesting and watchable character, adding his usual dry hilarity to the odd situations presented in this movie.
