This is not the product that I was expecting, especially since the picture is for what I wanted. When I was sixteen I watched the original every day for a month. I started watching and from the beginning I noticed that there was an added scene. This was fine because I figured I would be getting a directors cut of the movie so there would be added scenes. As the movie progressed I noticed that there other scenes that were added and things that were not there that I was expecting to be there. It was an overall disappointment and since it is digital I am unable to return. There needs to be some sort of clue up there that lets one know that this is not the original version of the movie. I am all for having extended scenes but not without sacrificing the integrity of the original movie. I wish I could say that I loved this one just as much as the original but I am sad to say that I cannot.
Decided to splurge and buy a movie I had been missing as of late, just to find out that the version offered here on Amazon Video is the "remix" version, which bites. Makes me very leery of purchasing a video this way again.

The other reviewers are right -- the Blu-Ray really IS the original theatrical version!!! I was skeptical, but thought I'd take a chance since this was one of my favorite movies of the 1990s (and often quoted when I worked in a music store in my late teens). The remix version was just awful, so I'm quite happy to be able to enjoy this movie again!
If you've been searching for the original version, here it is!
I really thought this movie was awesome! It has a perfect cast and soundtrack to go with it. Joe Reaves (Anthony LaPaglia) runs an Empire Records store, but is worried that the shop might get bought out by a bigger chain. The rest of the shop workers find this out at the end of the day and don't want to see their shop go anywhere so, they decide to take matters in their own hands to try and save it. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it, but I guarantee you'll like this movie! I gave this movie 5 stars for a perfect cast, soundtrack, and the interaction between the characters.

Seriously? How could you NOT love this movie? Every teenager should be required to watch it. The cast is great. The dialogue is hilarious. The movie is sooo 90's/indie/punk/hipster/brings you back to what it was like. It just makes you smile. Watch it. You'll love it.
This is my favorite movie of all the 90s. Teen movies don't really get any better than this... for me, anyway. Watching it kind of makes me want to have my own record store, as long as I'm rich and don't care if it's feasible in today's economy. The characters are charismatic, and Anthony LaPaglia's character Joe is a cool boss to have and also doesn't take much crap. I wish I had a cool job to go to like these kids.

..soundtrack. This is a very infectiously fun movie. A day in the life of a teen working for the man, a very cool man. The music is classic 90's and fun. I especially like Rene Zellweger singing Sugar High, heck, I especially like whatever she sings, says and wears. Give it a shot, it's a worthy contender for a rainy, stormy, snowy afternoon.
Epic fun with a great cast of characters. The music is brilliant and the way the story unfolds is a great watch. One of the people in the film is charged with banking the takings and ends up blowing it all away at gambling. Another is looking to ask out one of the girls before he leaves for college but the girl (Liv Tyler) is oblivious. Enjoy watching it all unfold in this, i dare say 'cult classic' film
I love the storyline of this film, it's quite innocent and sweet, Liv Tyler and Renee Zelweger steal the show, and there's an AMAZING soundtrack, lots of tongue in cheek made up videos to go alongside that, and some gorgeous cast members. In the style of "Dazed and Confused" or "The Breakfast Club" (must watch those too if you haven't!).
I loved this film when I was a teenager and watching it again many years later I feel no different. This would be perfect for fans of slightly left-field movies and will have you giggling, crying and cringing intermittently. A great watch and well worth the money!
5.0 out of 5 starsI want to work at Empire too...!!

Really good film exploring the lives of what on the surface appears to be a groups of stereotypical teenagers working in a record shop however as the film progresses you get to see underneath the layers and the way in which the cast interact is great and very believable . Nostalgic and cool, love this feel good film
